Your mind is a powerful tool. It can propel you instantly into a state of happiness or plunge you into a state of fear. Having a good understanding of your mental strengths and weakness places you at a great advantage. There are many out there who have trained their minds to withstand even the harshest of things that life throws at them, and they won’t even give the situation a second thought. Well, like anything in life, we can and should exercise our mind and strengthen our mental faculties.
Here are some helpful tips to guide you along the way…
Stop feeling sorry for yourself
We, all can ‘drop’ our mental guard and say, “Well, it’s my nature or it’s always been like this for me etc.” Feeling sorry for oneself just places more burden and mental strain on your mind. It’s not going to change the situation or your attitude. You need to forget about attaching emotions to a situation and pep-talk yourself with some solid optimistic comments, eg: “This is simple, or I am bigger and stronger than this, or I can handle this well etc.” You have to practise building strong and effective mental-conditioning phrases that assist you when you feel mentally weak or challenged.
Don’t let your past ruin your present
At times we tend to lean too much on past, negative experiences. These impede our progress and conjure up ‘mental blocks’. Remember to focus on the present. Work on attaining happiness and success for the current moment. Learn to dispel any mental blocks that creep up from the past. Try to cast away the negative mental thoughts and images. Create fresh new, positive mental images and states that can be used as anchors whenever you need to feel mentally strong and in total control of a situation.
Don’t be afraid of change
One way to strengthen your mind and mental faculties is to be aware of change. Being too set in your ways can put a mental strain on your mind. Sudden changes can occur anytime in your life. Be prepared for change at all times. Embrace it, look forward to it and make the best of the new situation or challenges. Having a strong mind when faced with change, greatly assists with physical and emotional effects that change may bring with it.
Mentally strong people out there are admired, yet they don’t just inherit the strength, they have systems in place which allow them the freedom to face any situation with a smile…so, go ahead and colour in your ‘grey matter’, it won’t cost you a dime.
