…be like him/her. They always say the right things, do the right things and look good.”
Well, people of this class are ‘few and far apart’ in the fast paced, materialistic world we live in.
The people that we admire and like to emulate are those that ‘walk the walk’ and ‘talk the talk’. They lead by example and they inspire us to follow and do the things they do.
But, let’s be honest, finding a good leader today is difficult. Too often, we find people who don’t ‘practise what they preach’ and it gets frustrating especially if you are in a learning or working environment.
So, how do we grow and progress, if those above us don’t show good work ethic, manners or examples?
Here’s 2 simple steps to assist with this scenerio:
Step 1: is to look at ourselves first and see if we stand up to being leaders and role models in our own immediate circles. If not, then shouldn’t we try and work on self improvement? Perhaps our excellent manners and behaviour will rub off on those above us.
Step 2: is to sincerely explain to the person the need to learn from their experience and expertise. This will allow them to see themselves as a mentor and guide to you. They will certainly be more conscious of their attitude and actions around you, and they will try to give off their best, knowing that you take them to be somewhat of a role model.
So, there we have it, simple effective and to the point!

I often wish I could be a better ME.
